The travel program is not co-ed and there are separate teams for boys and girls. The teams are entered into a town league known as the Bay Area Youth Soccer League (BAYS). BAYS provides play in the under-9, under 10, under 11, etc. catagories for boys and for girls. Each age group is broken into four divisions - (division 1 being the most competitive). Each division is further broken down into a number of sections based on strength and number of teams registered. Sections consist of a total of six teams and each team plays each of the other teams in its section twice a season (10 matches) one at home and one on the road. The travel team gives children from Dorchester an opportunity to travel to other communities and it gives other communities an opportunity to come to Dorchester.

The travel component is for children who want to participate in more competitive soccer opportunities. There is an additional cost beyond the registration fee for children who want to play on the travel team. That cost is applied toward the purchase of uniforms and league registration for the travel teams. There is also a greater team commitment involved in the travel program since most teams usually practice twice a week and the teams are required to travel to other communities five times during the fall season and five times during the spring season. In the spring the older age group teams beginning at the under-12 level are eligible to qualify for the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC).

DYS is looking to expand the number of travel teams it currently sponsors.
